Jamie Gault, Action for Carers Surrey’s Chief Executive for the past eight years, is leaving the organisation for a new role.

By Laura Dennett, Chair, Board of Trustees, Action for Carers Surrey

Action for Carers’ Chief Executive, Jamie Gault, is standing down to become CEO of charity Perennial (formerly The Gardeners Royal Benevolent Society), where he will start in November.

During his tenure, Jamie has led the organisation through periods of both transformational change and challenge.

These included the merger of ten independent carer support schemes into Action for Carers in 2017, the multiple challenges (and notable successes) during COVID as we adapted quickly and successfully, and the successful retendering of our services, completed last year.

Tough times for carers

With COVID, the cost of living crisis and other challenges, the past three years have been particularly difficult, with carers needing even more support. Jamie has led ACS through an organisational and service model restructure to meet these changes, including the creation of multiple Carer Hubs across the county.

We are now reaching more carers, and influencing health and social care across Surrey and beyond. Jamie’s also helped us form powerful partnerships, for example with the National Trust, Historic Royal Palaces, Carers Trust, Carers UK and the wider voluntary and faith sectors in Surrey. We thank all of them for their continued support.

Other highlights include the growth of fundraising, and our anniversaries, both the celebration of our first 25 years in 2017, and last year’s 30th, as well our work influencing national and local carer policy.

I would like to thank Jamie personally for his unrelenting determination, focus and passion, which have driven ACS so successfully forward, to become the organisation we are today.

Jamie leaves Action for Carers in calmer waters, and stronger than ever. On behalf of the Board and the staff, I’d like to thank him for all he has done and wish him well for the future.

From Jamie

Jamie“The last eight years have been a rollercoaster but, despite the challenges we have faced, they have also been amongst the very best and happiest of my long career and I feel privileged to have been part a team that has achieved so much. Action for Carers will always be part of me, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board, the Senior Management Team and, of course, the wider ACS colleagues, all without whom none of this would have been possible. It has been my privilege to be part of an organisation that has achieved so much in the support of Surrey’s carers.”

New CEO recruitment
